After a decade of decline under Labor, the Crisafulli Government is taking another step to fix Queensland’s health crisis with an expanded transit lounge at Redland Hospital. This is just the start of restoring health services when our community needs them most.
Member for Redlands Rebecca Young MP said during Labor’s last term of government ambulance ramping at Redland Hospital peaked at 73 per cent – the worst in Queensland’s history.
“Our hardworking doctors, nurses, and paramedics hd been under extreme pressure due to Labor’s decade of neglect,” Mrs Young said.
“Today’s announcement delivers on a major election commitment to reduce ambulance ramping and better support our frontline health workers with one of six new and expanded transit lounges across the state, including here at Redland Hospital.
“These lounges are a key part of our plan to ease pressure on emergency departments and improve patient care by freeing up critical inpatient beds.”
The Redland Hospital transit lounge will be expanded, providing extra space and support for patients awaiting discharge, admission, or outpatient appointments.
The expansion will include additional treatment chairs and beds to improve patient flow and reduce delays.
All transit lounges, including Redland, will be operational by late 2026, with some services coming online later this year and additional frontline healthcare workers will be hired to support the new and expanded facilities.
“Our local hospital has been under incredible pressure, and this expansion will make a real difference for Redlands’ families. Patients will be able to get treatment sooner, leave hospital when they’re ready, and help reduce ambulance ramping.”
The transit lounge projects form part of an $80 million investment under the Easier Access to Health Services Plan, alongside works under the Government’s Hospital Rescue Plan, designed to restore frontline health services across Queensland.
