SUE’S BIG WIN!

MACLEAY ISLAND’S SUE BISHOP QUEENSLAND’S BUS DRIVER OF THE YEAR! Macleay Island’s Sue Bishop has officially been voted South East Queensland’s top bus driver for 2023. Her win was announced at a glittering ceremony held in Cairns on Saturday night, April 15. Sue was in Cairns for the announcement. After the ceremony Sue Bishop was overcome with emotion following her triumph. She exclaimed: “It is wonderful news and a big thank you to all you wonderful people who voted for me. “The travelling public are the one’s who enabled me to win the award. “Thanks to all who voted for me. “An added bonus was to get to meet all the other nominees and the other winners. Ms Bishop, winner of the South East Queensland bus driver award, was overcome with emotion following her triumph. “I was so shaken up, I wasn't expecting to win the award,” Ms Bishop said. “A few of my friends and family have bought a cake to celebrate.” There were awards in three categories. Sue was the winner of the South East Queensland Driver of the Year, representing Transdev Capalaba. Other nominees were Jason Morris and Sharif Shafey, both representing Transport for Queensland. Queensland Transport Minister Mark Bailey commented: “The winners Sue, John and Deborah are the embodiment of the hard work our bus drivers put in day-in, day-out to service our communities. "Whether it’s getting kids to school, workers to their jobs or vulnerable community members to important appointments, our hardworking bus drivers make it happen. “They deserve every opportunity for recognition of the vital role they play in keeping our State moving.” Head of Translink, Sally Stannard, added: “Our three winners are passionate in what they do and are great ambassadors for the profession as it faces challenges to attract new bus drivers.” Winners were decided via a public vote on the nine finalists (three in each category), who were selected by a judging panel from a list of more than 900 public nominations.
