Redlands White Water Centre a once-in-a-generation opportunity
Member for Redlands, Rebecca Young says the 2032 Brisbane Olympics presents a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to secure generational infrastructure and long-term benefits for the Redlands.
She has said: “As your local Member of Parliament, I am committed to ensuring the Redlands is not left behind.
“The Redland White Water Centre (RWWC) at Birkdale is more than just an Olympic venue—it is a future community asset.
“It will provide opportunities for recreation, tourism, and disaster resilience training, while also driving jobs and economic growth for our region.
“Many of you have shared your excitement with me about this project, and I am proud to stand with you in support of this vision.
“Unlike other whitewater facilities, the proposed RWWC at Birkdale will integrate seamlessly into the broader Birkdale Community Precinct (BCP).
“The precinct will include parklands, a public lagoon, and open spaces, offering a vibrant hub for local families to gather, play, and enjoy the natural beauty of the Redlands.”
The MP said she has discussed with local leaders the immense potential of this facility to “attract international events, training opportunities, and even creative industries such as film production—drawing further economic benefits to our city.
“The RWWC, combined with other key projects like the Capalaba revitalisation and improved transport networks, will help make Redlands a thriving and connected region.
"This is our opportunity to showcase the very best of Redlands to the world.
“I encourage you to share your thoughts with the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority by making a submission at www.gamesreview.com.au.
