Festival of Small Halls Returns to Southern Moreton Bay Islands for Fifth Time CONCERT TO BE HELD AT RUSSELL ISLAND RECREATION HALL ON 28 JULY

The much-anticipated Festival of Small Halls tour is set to make its fifth appearance on the Southern Moreton Bay Islands, bringing world-class music and community spirit to Russell Island Recreation Hall on 28 July. This local performance will complete the Winter Tour 2024 which begins in far north Queensland and winds south along the coast. The Festival of Small Halls, known for its intimate and unique concert experiences in rural and regional communities, will once again showcase a stellar lineup of talented artists. The latest tour promises to be a highlight in the local cultural calendar, offering an evening of exceptional live music and connection.“We are thrilled to welcome the Festival of Small Halls back to the Southern Moreton Bay Islands,” said Shirley Lindsay, Event Coordinator. “The festival has become a beloved tradition for our community, and this winter’s concert at the Russell Island Recreation Hall brings together three fabulous acts for yet another memorable event”

Award-winning Canadian duo Quote The Raven are returning to Australia after a debut at Port Fairy Folk Festival in March. They seamlessly merge Americana-Folk Music

with East Coast storytelling, sharing tales of a small-town touring band experiencing the

world.

“We are so excited to be returning to Australia... We thought it would be at least another year before we had the chance to come back. We've performed at Small Halls here in

Canada several times, so we can't wait to do it in Australia!”

Hailey Calvert, a much-loved player in the Australian and international music scene joins them on the tour. The independent performer makes a lasting impression with her achingly honest folks tunes and relatable presence.

“I’m so excited to get to perform for lovely audiences in little towns you usually might not

get to stop in on tour. Every time I drive through a small town I see the most amazing potential venues and am thrilled to get to play in them this time!” said Hailey.

Opening the show will be local trio Island Road. With an evocative blend of rich musical traditions and diverse backgrounds, Island Road bring together the talents of three SMBI musicians: soulful vocalist and lyricist Mark Knight, UK-born, classically trained cellist Alasdair Henry, and Australian/Finnish acclaimed singer/songwriter Esther Bertram.

There will be a delicious array of food available on the night, including curries, baked spuds, soups and bread (vegetarian and vegan options available) along with a bar serving beers, mixers, wine, soft drinks, tea and coffee.

The Russell Island Recreation Hall, with its prime location above the jetty and water views, provides the perfect setting for this celebrated concert tour. Attendees can expect a warm and welcoming environment, where music lovers of all ages come together to enjoy performances by both local and visiting artists.
