MAYOR SEEKS COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF REDLAND CITY COUNCIL PERFORMANCE AND DELIVERY
Mayor Jos Mitchell has taken a major move that could significantly impact the future performance and outcomes of Redland City Council.
At its recent council meeting the councillors voted 6 votes to 5, to endorse the Mayor’s motion to commission a comprehensive review of Redland City Council.
The resolution will now see an external reviewer appointed to conduct a fulsome review of Council’s services, delivery models and organisational structure.
In an official statement Mayor Mitchell said her initiative “will ensure we are delivering the right services, in the right way, and as efficiently as possible.”
CEO Louise Susan told the meeting that such a comprehensive review “has not been undertaken in as long as anyone in chambers could identify.’
Mayor Mitchell told council: “I don’t think this is good enough.
“The needs of our residents are changing constantly.
“This review will make sure we are keeping pace with the community’s expectations and give ratepayers comfort that their rate contributions are being spent efficiently.
“This is particularly important as many businesses and householders are facing significant financial pressure, compounded in recent days by impacts from Tropical Cyclone Alfred,” the Mayor said
A key part of getting this review right will be input from both the community and council staff through consultation.
Mayor Jost Mitchell continued: “I want to be clear; this is not a reflection on the good work of our staff, as some councillors have suggested.
“Quite the contrary.
“We have motivated and talented people and this review is about enabling them to deliver for the community.
“I would like to thank Councillors Bishop, Boglary, Golle, Hewlett, and Huges for supporting this initiative and for putting the Redland City community first,” the Mayor concluded.
