AND NEW HEADQUARTERS COMING FOR SOUTHERN MORETON BAY ISLANDS AMBULANCE COMMITTEE
Big things are happening in the ambulance world on our islands.
The Macleay Island Local Ambulance Committee (MILAC) have recently changed its name to cover all the SMB islands.
Now called the Southern Moreton Bay Islands Local Ambulance Committee (SMBILAC), it has taken this step after a request from Queensland Ambulance Services staff on Russell Island.
This decision will take in services such as first aid, CPR Awareness Program, and Snakes Alive! programs to all the island communities.
They’ll also be looking for new enthusiastic members to aid in these endeavours. Interested people can contact island ambulance secretary Cheyne on 0457 424 438 or at secretary@smbilac.org.au.
Also on the agenda is a new headquarters for the ambulance service on Macleay Island.
A strategic large block of land has been secured on the southern tip of the island located between Russell Terrace and Southsea Terrace, adjacent to the Macleay Island Progress Association hall.
It is expected the new ambulance station will be constructed within the next 18 months.
The existing ambulance station in the centre of the island will revert to total use by the Macleay Island Rural Fire Service, which currently is a co-tenant with the ambulance service.
Ambulance Committee secretary Cheyne Collingwood has also advised that Macleay Island has recently welcomed two new paramedics to the community.
Sophia and Peter are both on long term contracts.
They are loving the lifestyle and people of Macleay Island..
Along with Officer In Charge Jamie Paul and Paramedic Robbo, they make up a hard-working team of four.
