Get ready for an unforgettable Australia Day celebration on Sunday, January 26th, 2025! BIMSARA is proud to present a free family fun day event with an extravaganza of entertainment, food, and exciting activities for all age groups, to be held at the Resilience Centre and sporting fields on Russell Island.
Supported by Running Wild, Bay Islands Auto Club, and Bay Islands United Football Club—who will be signing new players on the day—BIMSARA will also be supported by their sub-committees: Bay Islands Kids Fitness and The Church of Eternal Reign. The event is expected to attract a massive crowd of locals and visitors alike.
With so much to see and do, it’s the perfect way to spend the day with your family and friends. The event will kick off at 10 am Russell Islands Quandamooka Elder – Morgan Green welcoming the community to Country with his striking song and dance. Robert Street Market Stallholders will be open for sales from 10 am. Our Islands Community makes a diverse range of arts and crafts and there is always something for everyone. From there, the fun continues with various activities and events catering to everyone’s interests.
Of particular interest will be the Bay Islands Australia Day Awards presented by The Friendly Bay Islanders Gerard Thompson, Rebecca Young MP, and Councillor Shane Rendalls. There will be bubble soccer, water sports, outdoor games, children’s races, arts and crafts, and much more for the kids. The adults can enjoy classic car displays, boules games, and a live music performance.
And let’s not forget the food! BIMSARA welcomes Macleay Island’s very own Chef It Dining, who will not only have their food truck but also sell directly from the commercial kitchen. BIMSARA has also booked a soft-serve ice cream van. At the BIMSARA BITES corner, there will be snow cones, soft drinks, water, and coffee.
The Auto Club will showcase their classic cars, and the BIMSARA BAR BOYS from the Bay Islands Chamber of Commerce are donating their precious time to run the BIMSARA BAR. With so much to see and do, the event promises to be the highlight of your Australia Day celebrations.
At 2pm when the main event finishes – there will be an open Australia Day church service in the Resilience Hub hall. Everyone is welcome.
So mark your calendars, gather your family and friends, and head down to BIMSARA, 2-50 Union Street (or at the end of Robert Street) on January 26th, 2025, 10am to 2pm, for a day filled with fun, laughter, and good times. We can’t wait to see you there!
BIMSARA would particularly like to thank The Friendly Bay Islander for consistent prominent Media coverage, Dan Golin (President of the Bay Islands Chamber of Commerce) for donating many hours to ensure all the protocols and procedures were strictly adhered to as mandated by Redlands Council and for erecting our external lights so that we can now safely move around the Russell Island Sports & Resilience parklands and carpark in the evenings. BIMSARA would also like to thank Redlands City Council for the constant support and funding to make our events possible and Chris McGregor (Bay Islands Property) & Michael Clout (Island Industrial Services) and their friends and families for helping us to fundraise by hosting our bar.
NOMINATE NOW FOR 2025 AUSTRALIA DAY BAY ISLANDER OF THE YEAR AWARDS
Islanders should submit names now for the 2025 Australia Day Bay Islander of the Year Awards. The awards are held annually on Australia Day, with several categories to be awarded. These Australia Day Awards are sponsored by The Friendly Bay Islander/Radio FBI and Division 5 Redland City Councillor Shane Rendalls.
There are three categories to be recognised:
Bay Islander of the Year
Senior Bay Islander of the Year (60 years and over)
Young Bay Islander of the Year (16 to 30 years)
The online survey for nominations is available on The Friendly Bay Islander website: thefriendlybayislander.com. The awards recognise Bay Islanders who best demonstrate community spirit and involvement. They are not judged by the number of entries received per person; a panel is selected based on merit.
