NEW POLICE SERGEANT HEADS UP RUSSELL ISLAND POLICE

Russell Island Police Station has a new commanding officer.

New officer in charge is Sgt Carmel O’Callaghan.

Sgt O’Callaghan comes to Russell Island after 15 years as a member of Queensland Police.

Up until her island appointment, she has been performing duties in general first response, in the child protection unit, and property crime unit within the Brisbane Region.

She told the Friendly Bay Islander she was looking forward to her new position on Russell Island.

“I have been working on Russell Island for the past six months and have already seen and spoken to the community of Russell Island and can see the strength of the community spirit.”

Russell Island Police Station now has four police officers which is having a positive benefit for the community.

Sgt O’Callaghan said she and her team are focusing on reducing crime and building a relationship with Russell Islanders.

“I look forward to meeting more members of the island community in a positive way in the coming months.
