The concrete pathway program is to be continued on Russell Island.
The program was started two years ago by Redland City Council following the death of young Ethan Stephenson who was hit by a car last year walking home down Centre Road.
A plea to Redland City Council by Ethan’s best friend, Lochie McLintock-Hill, resulted in a unanimous decision to construct a footpath the length of the island.
Cr Mark Edwards made sure it was part of a programmed roll out of footpath work across all the Bay Islands, starting with Russell Island.
A long stretch of Centre Road was completed, but the connection from High Street to Centre Road along Minjerriba Road is yet to be done.
Council has started work in recent days on this stretch Minjerriba Road from High Street and into Centre Road where it meets the exiting pathway.
Redland City Council will be engaging contractors to construct a two metre wide concrete pathway along the designated section, linking the previous work with the High Street pathway to the Russell Island CBD.
Cr Edwards advised that this was not the only footpath work that is scheduled.
A footpath will be constructed on Canaipa Point Drive, between Aquarius Road and Oasis Drive, Russell Island
Redland City Council will be engaging contractors to construct a 2 metre wide concrete pathway along this stretch with work to start at the end of February, weather permitting.
